We shot the Dirt Camo Baselayer on ultra runner, ocean rower and explorer Alex Bellini, who is 6ft 2 / 188cm and wears size medium. He has a very lean physique and likes his clothes close fitting.

With so much elasticity, the Dirt Camo Baselayer can be worn tight to your skin, or large and loose. So if you like your baselayers a bit baggy we recommend choosing a size up.

See our size guide for more advice on sizing.

And don’t worry if you order something and it doesn’t fit – we have a free, no-hassle 30 day return and exchange period.

Our approach to recreating dirt

Dirt gets on you in irregular ways. It spatters, smears and seeps in. It wobbles on you like jelly then dries like cement. So recreating it is all about contrast – from speckled dry flakes to deep fresh wet stains. You need the fine splatter of mud spat up by your tyres or heels, to smears from falls and the soaking spread of wet mud from bogs. For colours we’ve ranged from rich brown peat, to slate grey clay.

The techniques we've used

We needed seven layers to blend the different types of dirt using colour, shadow and contour lines to create the perception of depth that tricks the eye and disguises real dirt stains. The base print is a light sandy gravel colour. We have off-white speckled dried mud highlights with darker offset shadows. There are a series of mid brown contour lines to create the perception of depth, and a greeny brown seeping smudges. The final layer is heavy fresh dark mud clumps smeared into the top.

High performance for high intensity situations

The Dirt Camo baselayer is made from a high performance fabric that’s soft, breathable and highly elastic. With 22% elastane, the baselayer gives you complete freedom of movement with 4 way stretch. We’ve combined this with elastic stitching that can stretch and tolerate extreme movements. Called ‘active stitch’ it's not only tougher than standard stitching, but also has the ability to stretch with the fabric when it’s being pulled around by you or nature.

Seamless side panelling

Two seamless side panels – running from the bottom hem, up the side of the body, then down the inside of the sleeve to the cuff – give you complete freedom of movement, with no seams to prevent the fabric stretching as you move your arms and upper body.

Lock-down waterproof zip

The baselayer has a lock-down zip, which means you can secure it in place at any point. Once locked in place, he zip pull won’t bounce and the zip won’t come undone, however much you move around. It stays exactly where you left it. The zip has a rubberised, waterproof surround, and a soft zip guard at the neck.

The Blood Salt & Dirt Camo system

The Dirt Camo Baselayer is part of our range of extreme camo for extreme sports. Whether you’re racing downhill, up a rock face, or through trails, you always end up covered in several pints of sweat, random dirt, and the occasional bit of blood. Our Blood, Salt & Dirt Camo t shirts and baselayers can be worn together to make cuts and blood stains, sweat and salt waves, mud and dirt difficult to detect, and washing optional.
