We start with the softest cotton from the Nile Delta
Life at the equator offers us a glimpse of our future – a world of non-stop sun, heat, humidity and rainstorms. So we’ve built the Equator Shorts to equip you for it. To build shorts that can work in all 40,000km of the equator we start with a world-class base material – a rare cotton called Karnak Menoufi. One of the lightest, softest fabrics on the planet, Karnak Menoufi is a silk-like cotton that’s only found in the Nile Delta, and only grows in the years when the rain, soil and wind conditions are perfect. And it’s exactly the same material we use to build our Equator Shirt.

We turn cotton into a high performance fabric
While Karnak Menoufi is already extremely soft and robust, we’ve added durability and stretch by combining it with elastane and an ultrafine nylon in Italy. And as shorts typically take more of a beating than shirts, we’ve woven more nylon into the cotton than we do with the shirt, to add more strength. The result is an advanced, lightweight material that feels extremely soft next to your skin.

Lightweight and breathable
As global temperatures rise and climate zones shift, clothes have to respond. That’s why the Equator Shorts are built to handle extreme heat. The material is highly breathable, which means sweat can escape fast. They’re also super lightweight at 230 grams, which makes them easy to wear or pack on any adventure.

The ventilation system works like in-built air-con
Designed for hot, humid and arid environments, the Equator Shorts are engineered with the same ventilation system as the Equator Shirt. Inside each pocket you’ll find laser cut and bonded panels built with 332 perforated vents. The vents are designed to let air flow through the shorts simply by opening the pockets.

Two side pockets with hidden vents
The two side pockets are built with angled lockable zippers that fasten in position. And you’ll find the first set of hidden vents inside the pockets when you need to cool down. The laser cut panels inside each pocket are cut with 92 holes to create 184 mini air streams.

Two back pockets with in-built vents
The zipped back pockets are built with the same hidden laser cut panels that allow air in when you open them up. And each panel here comes with 74 vents. You’ll also find a fifth pocket just above the right knee, with the opening concealed beneath a small storm flap along the seam.

Fast drying from rain and humidity
Rainstorms and humidity are going to soak you one way or another at the equator, so the key is about drying really fast, rather than trying to avoid getting wet. The fabric is ultra lightweight and elastic so it dries quickly, making the shorts as at home in a rainforest as they are in a city. And the extra airflow from the ventilation will help your skin dry faster at the same time as the shorts.

Horizontal stretch
The last thing you want when you’re pulling any extreme or repetitive move in the heat is resistance from your kit. The Equator Shorts have 2 way horizontal stretch, so whichever way you pull, turn or stretch, they will simply go with you.

An engineered waistband
The fly fastens with a zipper and button built from the phenomenally strong corozo nut. It’s highly resistant to scratches, extreme temperatures and impact, so it won’t crack or splinter. The waistband also comes with five 60mm belt loops to work with almost any belt.

The shorts’ invisible tech blocks invisible UV rays
Just like sunblock, fabric can be rated for its ability to reduce your exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet light. The Ultraviolet Protection Factor, or UPF, shows how much more protection your skin would have while wearing that piece of clothing. A UPF rating of 15 for example would give your skin 15x more protection than it would have if it was unprotected. The shorts score a UPF of 50+ which is the highest possible rating, giving you the highest possible protection, wherever you are.

Wear them with the Equator Shirt
The Equator Shorts and Equator Shirt are designed to be worn together when the temperature starts climbing. Just like the shorts, the shirt is built with the same rare, silk-like cotton from the Nile Delta. We then turned this into a phenomenally lightweight technical shirt by adding stretch, strength, UV protection, and buttons carved from corozo nuts anchored on military tape. And with every detail designed to keep you cool, we engineered the shirt with the most advanced ventilation system we’ve ever made – 18 concealed air vents built with laser cutting and super soft Italian mesh that work together like built-in air-con.
